Theodore Martin

I am a literary historian and associate professor of english at the university of california, irvine. i write and teach about twentieth- and twenty-first-century U.S. fiction and the histories of popular genres.

I am the author of American literature’s war on crime and contemporary drift, both published by columbia university press. my writing has appeared in journals such as pmla, representations, american literary history, and many other venues. i also wrote the catalog introduction for the exhibition “about time,” displayed at the metropolitan museum of art in 2021.
